Camberley shows sting in the tail against Chobham
By Ian SIMPSON
Only ten short, but a spirited defence
CCC U13s lost the toss and were sent in to the field. Some great encouragement and good communication betweeen the boys coupled with some good tight bowling made an early wicket almost certain. However, our u13s were soon to learn an important and harsh lesson, which cost them two wickets. Both Charlie and Ethan managed bowled wickets, but in each case the Chobham umpire called No-Ball, because of a moving fielder. Amazingly, no fielders caused any more no-balls on any other non-wicket deliveries, before or after these, so quite a coincidence there! Luckily for Chobham, both batsmen thus redeemed, then went on to make maximum scores, thus securing their win.
Our batsmen played manfully , with Charlie managing to reach the 30 not out, but he was the only one to do so. Things were looking a little slow in the middle order, as the run rate slowed, until Harrison and Kian suddenly set up a late tenth wicket partnership, running off almost every ball, and both of them knocking a number of fours, and twos. The run rate picked up dramatically, and CCC started to believe again...An incredible stand ensued, which was sadly cut short , with just ten needed for victory...
...Anyway, at least they learned an important rule from the laws of cricket...!
