Great Bowling performance failed by the batting
By Ian SIMPSON
Wickets tumbling, but too few runs.
A dark and stormy evening though luckily dry, set the stage for the first of two fixtures between Camberley and Valley End U11s this season. We won the toss, elected to bowl, and Henry ELLIOTT started the match with a wicket in the first ball! Excellent job! Toby followed with a wicket in each of his two overs and Valley End were 16 for 3 after 4 overs. The rout continued as Noah had a fantastic double-wicket maiden and a third wickert in his second over to give him best bowling figures of 3 for 1 , followed by Charlie on 2 for 6... Slightly more expensive bowlers came later giving Valley End 30 runs off four latter overs, which was a shame, but at least allowed everyone to bowl. The innings finished on 75 for 9 and Camberley were thinking we had a real chance here, but had reckoned without the Valley End Bowlers.
Their attack opened with the super-fast Parker getting a maiden, and then giving us three byes in his next over. The equally adept Rofe got 2 for 5 by the end of the fourth over, and Camberley with only 8 on the board!!! Further excellent and tight bowling by Valley End saw a sea of dot balls, further maidens and as all our top order batsmen fell cheaply, Toby at number 6 was left to grit his teeth to get to a hard-won 14 off 22 balls, and was finally run out trying to get even more, so a valiant and spirited performance there. The tail had little sparkle though Jazib managed a couple, and we sadly were all out for 55 - only 20 short of what had seemed an easy total at the outset...
At least we have another chance at Valley End on 7th July - Let's make it happen second time around!!!
