Nailbiting Victory against Churt
By Ian SIMPSON
Quality bowling sees off the opposition.
Anyone with a bad heart condition should not have watched this match. The world cup T20 was nothing in comparison! Camberley U11s were put into bat first, and suffered a couple of early losses until Connor came in and stayed at the crease for as long as he could, finishing 19 not out. Thomas GRIFFITHS
added another ten, both of them scoring boundaries along the way. Other good scores were Cianan on 10 and Owen on 6. Camberley finished with a total of 87 runs for 9 wickets, though 32 of those were all extras!! Camberley went in to bowl, and the scores were neck and neck, until by the end of the fourth over, Churt had pulled ahead by ten runs. Then Toby struck... with two wickets in his first over , followed by one in the next over from Connor, and we had the breakthrough we needed. Churt's middle order batsmen added some ones and twos, but tight bowling from Camberley also produced a lot of dot balls, levelling the scores by the fifteenth over. Churt then lost further wicketswith Cianan gaining two in his first over, and a tight finish was guaranteed. By the seventeenth over, both teams had 61. Then followed the most awesome catch of the match, by Charlie in a graceful swooping dive, off Noah's bowling. Three overs to go and Camberley were one ahead, and some tight bowling from Harry B and Noah saw to it that the score did not advance further. Finally Churt were left with a requirement of 14 off the last over, and the ball was given to Ollie, against their top batsman, Swift. Undeterred, he kept a straight line, giving away no extras and managed a wicket, fielding the run out himself on the very last ball of the match, leaving Churt 8 short, and Camberley claimed victory... Well done all the boys!!!! Let's bat even better against Valley End on Thursday!!
